Request for Expressions of Interest – Training on Adolescent Boys and Young Men Global Fund Grant Program Revision

The South Africa Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (GF CCM) is responsible for leading the implementation of HIV and TB programmes funded by the Global Fund (GF) to Fight AIDS and TB in the country. The GF CCM has selected the three PR (Principal Recipients) which are AFSA, Beyond Zero and NACOSA to implement programmes for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYWs) with the Male Sexual Partners (MSPs). Where there are AGYWs, there is also Adolescent Boys and Young (ABYMs) that require services too. The PRs coordinates grants’ execution through sub-recipients (SRs), service providers and consultants as the main implementers.

The implemented services aim to effect risk reduction, behavior change and empowerment for both AGYWs and ABYMs to make healthy choices. AFSA, Beyond Zero and NACOSA invites interested party experienced in working with ABYMs to apply to be considered as ABYM Technical Assistant Service Provider to all implementing partners at various sub-districts. Technical Assistance support shall cover 12 local municipalities from various districts listed in Table 1.

The service provider will increase capacity for implementing teams, collaborating departmental stakeholders and community stakeholders in a manner that is both independent and sustainable over the long term.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following services:

  • PrEP Initiation and PEP for boys who are Sexual Assault Survivors
  • ABYM Sexual Reproductive Health Rights
  • Mental Health Support
  • Adherence Clubs

Men as Change Agents (Behavioral Modification Interventions)

  • Youth leadership and Community Involvement
  • Substance Use
  • Condom Use, lubricant programing and delayed sexual debut
  • Social and Behavioral Change Communication
  • ABYM Boot camps
  • Parent-Child Communication

Structural Interventions

  • Gender Based Violence, Media Violence and Cultural Norms
  • Community Health Services like Men’s Health
  • Care and support of ABYM heading families
  • Support on services like Social Grants, IDs, Academic Support, home visits
  • Career Guidance & Return to school programs
  • Ngena 1&2 Literacy for In School ABYM

4.    Documentation Develop pre-and-post-assessment surveys / exercises for participants All Trainings

The Service Provider will be accountable to the Programme Manager at the AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA).

  • Service Provider to have Legal status (Registered Certificate) recognized to work in South Africa, enabling the organisation to perform the above-mentioned tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality products at a reasonable cost.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working on issues related to ABYM HIV Prevention, Sexual and gender-based violence, gender and sexuality, HIV/AIDS and TB related work
  • Good administration and project management ability.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working on issues related to ABYM HIV Prevention, Sexual and gender-based violence, gender and sexuality, HIV/AIDS and TB related work.
  • Analytical English writing skills and ability to synthesise complex information and issues.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement; including government, civil society and community workers.
