Funding guidelines

The AIDS Foundation of South Africa currently supports community organisations working in the following provinces in South Africa : KwaZulu Natal , Mpumalanga , Limpopo , Eastern Cape , Northern Cape and the Free State . The Foundation considers supporting organisations that are implementing interventions targeting the following sectors:

  • HIV Prevention Interventions, e.g.: Life skills programmes , peer based behaviour change programmes, gender programmes targeting the girl & boy child;
  • Culture & Health, e.g.: interventions targeting traditional healers; traditional leaders; initiation schools & traditional gender roles;
  • Home and community based care , e.g.: HBC training, palliative care, DOTS, ARV literacy and compliance education, deathbed and bereavement counseling.
  • Care of orphans and vulnerable children e.g.: early identification of vulnerable children and succession planning; facilitating kinship and community foster care; assistance with social grant applications, counseling and monitoring the well being of children.
  • Poverty Alleviation , e.g.: promoting and providing training in respect of food security programmes; assisting families to access social grants; and income generating activities.
  • A)  Priority is given to supporting CBOs in poor and under serviced regions of the country.
  • B) Funding applications are solicited by means of a call for applications: funding grants awarded to beneficiary CBOs range from R1200 000 to R250 000 per year. The screening & selection processes involve onsite pre-grant award assessments. Applicant CBOs need to be engaged in one or more of the following prevention, community support or social protection activities:

The AIDS Foundation is not in the fortunate position where it has an endowment or a regular income, but has to actively raise funds from donors on an ongoing basis. For this reason, the Foundation is not in a position to consider unsolicited funding proposals. Instead community organisations are invited to submit funding applications in response to an official "Call for Applications". The Foundation announces the Call for Applications via its website, provincial networks, and other local networks.
