- To equip Community Based Organsiations (CBOs) with the necessary
resources and support to implement programmes for the effective
prevention of HIV/AIDS and the mitigation of its impact;
- To develop the skills base within target CBOs to enable them
to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate their work effectively;
- To build the organisational capacity of CBO partners for good
governance and long-term sustainability.
These objectives are achieved by:
- Providing microfinance grants to selected CBOs, over a period
of 3 to 5 years, for programme implementation;
- Building the organisational strength of the target CBOs through
quarterly HIV/AIDS IN SOUTH AFRICA
monitoring, site visits, and a structured mentoring and capacity
building programme.
Note: AFSA’s approach to
capacity building has often been described as “coaching”,
as it allows for a closer, more tailored level of support to CBOs.
AFSA has developed its own criteria and methodology that have been
incorporated into an internet-based project system for recording
and monitoring all activities and transactions.
