AFSA Team Building Trip to Moses Mabhida Stadium
On a very hot Durban summer afternoon, the AFSA team from the KZN Head Office and the satellite offices in Limpopo and Northern Cape came together to scale the new Moses Mabhida Stadium, built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup which is almost upon us.
In the end, nerves and the scorching 40+ degrees heat turned all but a very brave ten of the AFSA staff away from climbing the 550 steps up the stadium’s famous ‘arch of triumph’. For those that did climb, it was a challenging and rewarding task. Kitted out in safety harnesses and securely hooked together in a line, the group managed the climb up and then back down in the sweltering heat in only an hour and a half. Go guys! The rest of the AFSA team went on a tour of Moses Mabhida, soaking up some of the awe-inspiring atmosphere inside the vast stadium, which will seat 70 000 at full capacity during the World Cup. We loved the multi-coloured chairs that represent the Durban ocean and enjoyed viewing the Big Swing platform (where you can bungee swing a 220 metre arc right through the stadium!) from the safety of the ground. We then took the Sky Car up the side of the arch and marvelled at the view from the open-air platform on the very top of the stadium. What a magical afternoon! The team then united and, with a few congratulatory pats on the back of the adventure climbers, enjoyed a nice cool coke at the stadium bar.
