1. Bonukhanyo Youth Project

Bonukhanyo is a youth organization that exists to change the mindsets of young people around sex and sexuality by giving them information through training workshops on HIV/AIDS, STIs, condom usage and abstinence. They are servicing an area called Rode in Mt. Ayliff in the Eastern Cape.

The area they are servicing is characterized by high rate of teenage pregnancy, high rate of HIV infections, unemployment, poverty and boredom because there are no recreational facilities. The population of the area is estimated at ±2000.

The AIDS Foundation grant is used to support the HIV/AIDS and Sexuality education programme.

2. Gcinisizwe HIV/AIDS Orphan Project

Gcinisizwe HIV/AIDS and orphan project exist to give palliative care to the terminally ill people and to care for orphans and vulnerable children. They are servicing an area called Reitvlei about 20km from Umzimkulu. The population of that area is estimated at 15000. The rate of HIV/AIDS is high as well as the mortality rate in the area. Currently the orphans and vulnerable children are estimated at 340.

The AIDS Foundation grant is used to support the home based care and the orphans and vulnerable children’s project.

3. Ilungelo Training & Development Organisation

Ilungelo is an organization that operates in the Ibisi area in Umzimkulu in the Eastern Cape. Ibisi is a rural settlement made up of 9 villages with the population estimated at 7000. The aim project is to provide palliative care to the infected and psychosocial support to orphans and vulnerable children. The also run a gardening project through which they are able to provide breakfast and lunch to needy children in the community. The organization also trains home based carers and is registered with the Health and Welfare Seta.

The AIDS Foundation grant is used to support home based care, gardening project and the orphans and vulnerable children’s work.

4. Isibane Sezwe Organisation

Isibane Sezwe is a community-based organisation located in Egugwini ward 14 of the Umzimkulu municipality on the boarder of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape Province. The organisation began in 2003 in response to the rising crisis of local people returning from the cities to die in rural areas. It has recently been registered as non-profit organisation. Isibane Sezwe operates in five villages of the sixteen villages of this ward and there are requests for such intervention from other villages as well. It offers community based care to five villages in the area.

The AIDS Foundation grant is being used to support the home based care project.

5. Laphumilanga Organisation

Laphumilanga project is servicing the Welakabini area in a remote rural area in Mt. Ayliff. This village has about 124 houses, with an average of 6 persons per household. This organization was started by a group of women who saw a need for home based care in an area because the hospital is very far. So they

The HIV/AIDS rate is said to be very high, due to poverty, unemployment and cultural practices like polygamy.

The AIDS Foundation grant is used to support the home based care project of this organization.

6. Mahlungulu Foundation for Community & Individual Development

The Mahlungulu Foundation is operating in Sikelweni Administrative Area in Bizana with the population estimated at 20 000.The organization was established because many people were sick at home and there was no one to care for them and the local hospital was over burden. The rate of HIV/AIDS is said to be very high and the reasons for this are migrant labour, poverty, unemployment and lack of HIV/AIDS education.

The aim of the Mahlungulu Foundation project is to provide home based care to the terminally ill and offer care and support to orphans and vulnerable children.

The AIDS Foundation grant is used to support the home based care and OVC projects.

7. Nceduluntu Home Based Care

Nceduluntu home based care project is servicing the informal settlement in Mt. Ayliff called Chithwa Village. Chithwa village is characterized by shacks, no proper sewerage system, no clean running water and some of the shacks do not have electricity. The rate of unemployment, HIV/AIDS, poverty and alcohol abuse is very high.

The aim of the project is to provide home based care to the community of Chithwa village and the AIDS Foundation grant supports this project.

8. Siyakhana HIV/AIDS Support Project

Siyakhana is a support group that was established due to a high rate of people testing HIV positive in St Patricks hospital in Bizana. The support group is made up of people living with HIV/AIDS around the hospital and two other clinics i.e Amadiba clinic and Imizizi clinic. The population of Bizana is estimated at 250 000.

The support group meets twice a week and they are engaged in beadwork, vegetable garden project and also provide home based care to community members.

The AIDS Foundation grant is used to support all the programmes of the support group.

9. Masangane Moravian

Masangane Moravian church (Masangane) is located in Shiloh mission in Whittlesea.  The organisation has its operations in Sada, Matatiele and Mount Fletcher.  The organisation provides care and support to the infected and the affected, with a specific focus on the provision of ARV treatment to those who need it.  In addition to this, Masangane provides care and support to children affected by HIV and AIDS.  AFSA provides financial support towards the Orphan Coodinator's  salary in Matatiele.
