In 2004, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, on behalf of the
Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), conducted
a pre-grant award survey of the Foundation. The report’s findings
were most favourable, as shown in the following extract:
- ‘We contacted six of the existing donors of AFSA, regarding
their impressions of the effectiveness of AFSA's financial and
operational management and reporting. The donors that we obtained
responses from indicated satisfaction with AFSA on all aspects.
Some of the comments from the donors are listed below.
- The EC official contacted indicated that, regarding reporting,
AFSA is the best of the NGOs that they work with in South Africa.
- The Bernard van Leer Foundation official contacted indicated
that AFSA is one of their strongest partners in discussions and
contributions around the impact of HIV/AIDS on young children.
She also indicated that AFSA submits timely, appropriate reports,
including audited ones, and that the new (2003) grant is an indication
of their confidence in AFSA. They have no hesitation in recommending
AFSA to other donors.
- The Norwegian Church Aid official contacted indicated that
AFSA had assisted the Norwegian Church Aid greatly in achieving
its objectives of reaching poor and marginalised communities at
grass roots level. She indicated that reports have been timely,
funds managed as budgeted and operations implemented as expected,
delivering according to plans.
- The Bread for the World official contacted stated that “AFSA's
reporting is of a high quality, usually on time and the programmes
achieve a lot. It is an organization that works effectively and
is well worth supporting”’.
