AFSA supports Community Based Organisations s in targeted vulnerable
regions of South Africa that focus on the following issues:
Prevention:
- HIV Education: interventions dealing with issues of gender,
and peer based programmes targeting high risk and hard to reach
groups.
- Culture & Health: interventions targeting traditional healers,
traditional leaders, initiation schools, programmes seeking to
make traditional customs & practices safer.
Care and Support:
- Community Care: e.g. Wellness management, HBC training, palliative
care, DOTS, ARV literacy and compliance education, deathbed and
bereavement counseling programmes.
- Care of orphans and vulnerable children programme: e.g. the
early identification of vulnerable children and succession planning,
facilitating kinship and community foster care, assisting with
social grant applications, counseling, and monitoring the well-being
of children.
- Poverty Alleviation: e.g. promoting and providing training
on food security, assisting families to access social grants,
support for income generating activities, & short term emergency
relief for indigent households
Note: AFSA through its own interventions focuses
on lobbying and advocacy in partnership with local and national
networks & consortia.
