AFSA supports CBOs in targeted vulnerable regions of South Africa that focus on the following issues:
Prevention

HIV Education: targeted interventions with hard-to-reach groups and communities at higher risk of HIV infection; voluntary counselling and testing

Culture & Health: interventions that serve as catalysts, helping communities to begin to recognise, discuss and respond to the ways in which cultural practices affect health behaviours, as well as mental and physical well-being.
Care and Support

Community Care: organisations providing services and training in respect of wellness management, home-based nursing and palliative care, DOTS, ARV literacy and compliance education, and bereavement counselling programmes.

Care of orphans and vulnerable children programme: organisations engaged in the early identification of vulnerable children and succession planning, facilitating kinship and community foster care, assisting with social grant applications, counselling, and monitoring the well-being of children.

Poverty Alleviation: organisations promoting and providing training on food security, assisting families to access social grants, support for income-generating activities, & short-term emergency relief for indigent households.
